To meet our company’s growth aspirations, we are looking for a full-time Business Development Lead to join our company’s world-class Training Business Unit, responsible for supporting the MoD directly and the Tier 1 defence primes, as well as major Tier 2 and 3 contractors, in all aspects of individual training and education.
This is a great opportunity to join a dynamic and highly successful team at a mid to senior level and play an integral part in our big aspirations for growth and progress up the value chain. Reporting into the Business Development and Sales Director, your primary role will be to feed the Training Business Unit a challenging flow of attractive and winnable opportunities, developing the company’s training offer. You will target areas and opportunities for consolidation, innovation, disruption and growth, as well as developing business opportunities in adjacent markets.
You will also generate draft written material for bid and tender submissions, ensuring they meet both customer specifications and company standards.
Main responsibilities, specifically, you will:
• Develop training business in UK defence and security sectors and adjacent markets, primarily but not exclusively in the Land and Maritime domains, to drive a strong future pipeline of work, growing sustainable revenue and profits. • Meet or exceed agreed order intake targets, as well as return on business development investment activity. • Provide market intelligence, strategic options and sales pipelines and forecasts into business planning activities to ensure delivery against key performance metrics, with a strong emphasis on new business sales (client, competition and market), balancing near, mid-term and strategic opportunities to maximise overall revenue generation. • Reinforce long-term client relationships and work streams, spanning multiple service offerings. • Seek and build new client relationships to ensure the business has a diverse and resilient clientbase, encouraging enduring engagement to our customer. • Contribute as a member of the Training Business Unit management team, maintaining oversight of project delivery activity and quality, to ensure client expectations are suitably managed.
As the ideal candidate, you will:
• Have a proven consultancy/professional services business development record that speaks for itself, preferably in the defence and/or security sectors. • Be able to demonstrate a clear insight into tri-Service training and a good understanding of the Defence Systems Approach to Training, analysing, designing, delivering and assuring training and education systems and interventions.
You will also:
• Have a current and up-to-date knowledge and understanding of technology enhanced blended learning and contemporary adult learning techniques, preferably at an appropriate managerial or technical level (Training Manager, Learning Development Advisor, Personnel Training Officer or as an experienced Training Analyst). • Have experience of complex training and education transformational change. • Have an existing network of appropriate contacts and leading industry players to influence further and expand, with the ability to develop convincing relationships with senior stakeholders. • Have the personal drive and appetite to grow a successful business further, able to achieve stretch targets and business development goals. • Have the clarity of thought and ability to translate information technically and creatively, to formulate value propositions and winning strategies, spotting and developing competitive advantages for the company. • Be qualified to bachelor’s degree level (essential) or master’s level (desirable), with appropriate professional accreditation. • Have a high degree of commercial awareness. • Hold UKSV Security Clearance.
