PROFESSIONAL PROFILE
I am a dedicated professional with extensive experience of teaching at university level in the Middle East. Prior to coming to this part of the world I spent time teaching business English to adults in Argentina and Madrid. After completing my master’s in political science I returned to teaching with the eventual ambition of studying at PHD level. However, the job satisfaction that teaching gives me has persuaded me that my future lies in this profession and, after several years of teaching at King Saud University I am looking for a new challenge.
EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
ELT, King Saud University (09/2016 – 01/2018) and (08/2014 – 08/2015) Over the past three years I have been employed in two stints at a leading university in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. My primary responsibilities included: • Taught young adults in a preparatory year program • Used Smart Class technology to deliver dynamic lessons • Organized teaching work-shops to foster peer-to-peer learning and cooperation
Editor and English teacher, Scribbr (2010-2014) Between 2010 and 2014 I financed my way through university by working as an editor, proofreader and English teacher. • Checked and corrected academic papers for structure, spelling, grammar, punctuation and style • Provided constructive feedback to students by writing personal improvement letters with questions, suggestions and tips • Taught English to mixed-ability adult evening classes
ELT accounts manager, Astex (04/2009 – 08/2010) Whilst working in Madrid I was employed as an accounts manager and sometime teacher by the city’s most successful language school: • Liaised with management to develop teaching programs in some of Spain’s largest companies. Clients included Santander, Repsol and Corte Inglés • Designed and tailored curricula to client requirements • Gave level tests and assigned and managed teachers
English teacher and freelance writer (2007-2009) Between 2007 and 2009 I live and worked in South America, primarily in Buenos Aires where I earned a living writing and teaching: • Taught Business English to individuals and small groups in-company • Prepared students for Cambridge and university entrance exams • Taught young people in after-school classes
Marketing executive, Your Health Plus (06/2005 – 07/2007) Your Health Plus was a medical services start-up offering innovative alternatives to traditional private medical insurance: • Designed and wrote promotional material • Planned advertising and public relations campaigns • Responsible for editing a bi-monthly in-house magazine
Office administrator, Child Autism UK (2004-2005) Child Autism UK (Peach when I worked there) is a charity that co-ordinates ABA programs and offers help and support to the parents of children with autism. I was employed here as an office assistant and later manager: • Co-ordinated the timetables of ABA practitioners • Issued invoices and processed payments • Documented accounts using Excel • Responsible for the preparation and publication of a monthly charity newsletter
