BUSINESS STUDIES AND JAPANESE GRADUATE

I’m a first class graduate in Business Studies and Japanese; specialising in Strategic Management and I am seeking a position in Business Development. I have demonstrated excellent analytical and research skills during my time at Cardiff University to such extent; my dissertation on FDI in Japan was nominated for an Ivan Morris Prize. In addition, I developed my time management and organisations skills due to a series of tight-knit deadlines, examinations and my part-time job. In turn, I am incredibly adaptable and able to work under pressure effectively. RELEVANT SKILLS

Leadership and Communication Skills: In my second year at Cardiff University, I co-ordinated a group project with 2 other students from my marketing course. The task was to identify different marketing strategies to revitalise a run-down district in Cardiff. I facilitated an initial discussion to clarify how we would meet our objective and then I encouraged us to meet interim deadlines. In addition, I proposed regular meetings to discuss our progress and how we can support each other amid other deadlines. These regular meetings helped us to identify each other’s strengths, and this was imperative for our joint presentation. In turn, our report was submitted in a timely manner and we achieved a first-class grade on our project. From this experience, I found that I was able to accommodate different working styles happily through constant and clear communication.

Foreign Languages: During my time at Cardiff and Kobe University, I was required to study both Japanese and Business Studies and Economics in Japanese. In doing so, I had to demonstrate my oral and written communication skills in both Japanese and English. This helped me understand the Japanese business culture and it vastly improved my proficiency to N2.

Commercial Awareness and Continuous Development: I started my dissertation on FDI and M&A’s in Japan during my year abroad at Kobe University in order to investigate the different perspectives of FDI as an accelerant for economic growth in Japan. In doing so, it required excellent time management and organisational skills to balance my workload for Kobe and Cardiff University and my part-time work with HelloSensei. I was able to further develop my understanding of FDI in Japan and I found that several cultural barriers had impeded its development. To such extent, I was able to develop a unique argument in regards to FDI in Japan. In turn, my dissertation was nominated for an Ivan Morris Memorial Prize and it achieved a first-class grade of 80%.

Team Work and Decision Making: I demonstrated my teamwork and decision making skills when I headed up a charity fundraising event for Sue Ryder whilst I was studying at Henley College. In this task, we sold discounted Krispy Kreme doughnuts across schools in Oxfordshire and in turn, we made £567.40 within 10 days.
